The Royal Courts of Justice in London. Mr Justice Nicklin is due to rule at 2pm on whether ITN and The Guardian may publish sexual abuse allegations against the celebrity known only as PPT.

Mr Justice Nicklin dismissed the unnamed celebrity's injunction bid on Tuesday after the High Court heard allegations — made by 30 women — that he used his power and status to pursue "inappropriate and exploitative sexual activities" with young women. His anonymity remains protected while he decides whether to challenge the ruling, with a Court of Appeal deadline of 4.30pm on Monday 9 November. His lawyer said he is too vulnerable to give instructions on any appeal.

The man, known only as PPT, claimed that exposing his identity would put his life at risk, having previously attempted suicide twice.

ITN and Guardian News and Media brought the case after a four-year investigation they say uncovered potential criminal conduct.

Women's rights campaigners welcomed the ruling, arguing that human rights legislation was designed to protect individuals from the state, not to allow powerful men to silence female accusers.
