Kellogg's has replaced the whole rice grains in Rice Krispies and Coco Pops with rice flour and corn flour, blaming El Niño-driven droughts across Asian growing regions that have hammered harvests and pushed prices higher. The firm conceded customers 'might notice that the sound may be quieter and not as instant as before,' while insisting the iconic noise is 'still there.' Parents on TikTok branded the new recipe 'grim' and 'disgusting,' with several saying their children now refuse to eat it.

The reformulation adds wheat gluten as a listed ingredient, making both cereals unsuitable for coeliacs and wheat-allergy sufferers for the first time.

One parent, Dani, posted on TikTok: 'There's no snap, crackle and pop in these — my toddler won't eat them.'

UK shoppers are affected but US and Canadian customers can still buy the original rice-grain recipes unaltered.
