Cereal giant Kellogg's ditches rice grains from UK Rice Krispies and Coco Pops over 'changing weather' and adds WHEAT gluten

Kellogg's has blamed dry weather across Asian growing regions for reducing rice harvests and driving up prices, forcing it to reformulate two of Britain's most familiar breakfast cereals. Rice Krispies now uses rice flour in place of whole rice grains, while Coco Pops switches to a mixture of rice flour and corn flour. The change makes both cereals unsuitable for coeliacs and anyone with a wheat allergy. American and Canadian Rice Krispies will continue using real rice, with no recipe changes expected.
The wheat gluten addition is a formal allergen declaration — it was previously only a 'may contain' warning because the cereals shared a factory with gluten products.
Kellogg's insists both cereals remain non-HFSS, with fibre, Vitamin D and iron held at their existing levels, and with no artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners added.
The recipes were 'carefully assessed for taste, appearance and texture', the company said, adding it is 'continuing to listen closely to consumer feedback'.
