Chancellor Healey vows to slash £800m of 'pointless paperwork' as Tories say Labour has 'finally admitted' red tape hammers firms
Shadow chancellor Andrew Griffith said 'endless red tape is hammering businesses and killing jobs', accusing Labour of making things worse. The Treasury expects streamlined reporting to save £290m, with £116m cut from the cost of buying and selling homes. Import tariff pauses on more than 250 products will run for another year. The package comes ahead of John Healey's first Budget on Wednesday.
Griffith says Labour's unemployment act has 'created a youth jobs emergency'.
Ministers are targeting a 25 per cent cut in regulatory admin by the end of this Parliament.
Small firms will no longer have to file profit and loss accounts at Companies House from April 2028.
