Channel 4 chief executive Priya Dogra confirmed the deal, calling it an "exciting step" showing how broadcasters and streamers can create "more choice and value for audiences." Disney+ subscribers will gain access to Channel 4's full linear HD channel plus hundreds of hours of on-demand content at no extra cost as part of their existing subscription. Disney describes the arrangement as one of the most significant it has struck with any broadcaster globally.
Shows launching on the platform include Bella Ramsey drama 'Maya', Denise Welch comedy 'Stepping Up', and 'Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins'.
Great British Bake Off will also be available on Disney+ under the deal, which gives Channel 4 programmes day-and-date streaming alongside their broadcast release.
Disney has now struck around ten similar deals with international broadcasters, having previously partnered with ITV in the UK, Italy's RAI, and broadcasters in Germany, Portugal and Spain.
