Chaos grips Trump's White House ahead of the US midterms after his new press secretary lasted just five days

President Donald Trump picked Katie Zacharia as press secretary without consulting his chief of staff, Susie Wiles. He then brushed her aside with the remark 'maybe it's not for her'. Wiles is seen as the only real check on presidential whims inside the White House. The turmoil comes with the midterm elections due next month, when his party may lose both houses of Congress.

Wags say Zacharia lasted 'less than half a Scaramucci', who managed 11 days in 2017.

Trump is reportedly turning on his own team, with the infighting dubbed a 'circular firing squad'.
