Chelsea sign Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa for £7.5m as Colwill and Quenda are set to return for Brighton clash

Chelsea have agreed to sign World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa for £7.5million, with the veteran goalkeeper arriving as a direct rival to 21-year-old Mike Penders, who made his competitive debut in Thursday's 2-0 League Cup win over Luton. The deal emerged during Penders' warm-up, with fans cheering the Belgian warmly throughout as relief at Robert Sanchez's absence was palpable. Chelsea host Brighton on Sunday at 2pm, targeting back-to-back wins after Monday's 3-2 victory over Fulham.

Levi Colwill and Geovany Quenda are expected to train Saturday and should be available for Sunday, Xabi Alonso confirmed.

Moises Caicedo is due back in training Friday and will be assessed before any decision is made on his involvement against Brighton.

Penders spent last season on loan at Strasbourg and had been expected to compete with Sanchez — Martinez's arrival has abruptly changed his path.
