Chelsea thrash Man Utd as Carrick faces player reckoning after damaging defeat

Lisandro Martinez's red card against Chelsea — a second booking for a forearm to Wesley Fofana's face at a corner — pushed Manchester United's winless streak to nine games across all competitions, leaving Carrick's position under severe threat. Danny Murphy told Match of the Day that Martinez is 'in a different space' mentally and that 'something is obviously not right' in his head after a run of reckless displays.

Joe Cole, on co-commentary for TNT Sports, said Martinez has 'run his course' at United, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
