A young girl found critically injured beside a dead man at a house on Lisnahull Road in Dungannon, Co Tyrone, remains in a critical condition in hospital, the PSNI confirmed on Sunday. Police have a male suspect in custody on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and say they are not looking for anyone else. The incident came to light after a 999 call shortly after 11am on Saturday, with a helicopter crew, three emergency crews and a Hazardous Area Response Team all responding to the scene.
The girl was taken to Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children following the incident, which police have classified as a serious domestic incident.
Sinn Féin councillor Deirdre Varsani spoke of a 'strong sense of shock and trauma' across the Dungannon community, and appealed for anyone with information to come forward to police.
A forensic officer in a white suit was seen at the cordoned-off terraced property carrying an evidence bag, while family members who had gathered close by were heard screaming.
