China accuses the US of 'politicising' technology after the Trump administration bans DeepSeek AI from civilian government systems

China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Beijing opposes the 'overstretching of the concept of national security' and vowed to 'resolutely safeguard' Chinese firms. The Department of Homeland Security warned DeepSeek's models 'present multiple threat vectors' that could leak sensitive data to China. Signed in July but disclosed only on Monday, the ban comes as President Donald Trump and Xi Jinping are scheduled to meet in November.

The Commerce Department and the US Navy had already barred DeepSeek last year.

DHS warned the models may 'track or digitally fingerprint' users and could carry malware.

DeepSeek's cheap models once sent US tech stocks into a $1 trillion rout.
