The Jaecoo 7, a Chinese SUV mocked as the 'Temu Range Rover' for mimicking the Range Rover Velar at half the price, has become the UK's best-selling new car in September with 10,813 deliveries — the second time in 2026 it has topped the charts. Overall new car registrations hit 350,518 last month, the strongest September since 2017, with battery electric vehicles reaching a record 99,199 sales and capturing 28.3 per cent of the market.
Chinese brands have now shifted more than 300,000 cars in Britain so far this year, making up five of the top 25-performing brands and nearly a quarter of total market volume.
The Jaecoo 7 beat the Tesla Model 3 and the Ford Puma — which had held the UK's top spot for three years — despite being ranked the sixth least dependable model in a reliability survey of 40,000 UK drivers.
Jaecoo and sister brand Omoda together captured 6.36 per cent of September's market, with year-on-year registrations up 106 per cent, as European rivals including Vauxhall, VW and Audi continued to lose ground.
