China slams the Trump administration for 'politicising' technology after the US bans DeepSeek AI from government systems

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning vowed Beijing would 'resolutely safeguard' its firms after the Department of Homeland Security ordered DeepSeek stripped from civilian agency computers. DHS warned the models 'present multiple threat vectors' and could funnel sensitive data to China. The order was issued in July but only made public on Monday. The spat lands weeks before Donald Trump is due to meet Xi Jinping in November, with AI on the agenda.
The ban also covers third-party tools built on DeepSeek and blocks all future purchases.
The Pentagon and intelligence agencies fall outside the DHS order.
DeepSeek's cheap models once sent US tech stocks into a $1 trillion rout.
