Christa Pike is now walking on her own and speaking in full sentences weeks after Tennessee's botched execution
Christa Pike, 50, survived Tennessee's botched execution on September 30, continuing to breathe after at least seven needles and two doses of pentobarbital. She sustained severe burns to her arms and required ventilator support before being returned to the women's prison where she has spent the last 30 years. Her attorney says doctors are still monitoring her mind and mental state. He warns the full extent of any lasting damage may not be apparent for another month.
Pike was 18 when she killed classmate Colleen Slemmer, 19, with a box cutter and asphalt.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll found roughly one-third of Americans back a second execution attempt.
