Vue founder and chief executive Tim Richards says the cinema industry is back for good after a record-breaking summer, as the company's backers explore a float that could value the chain at £1.5bn. Backers including US asset manager Barings and hedge fund Farallon Capital are said to favour an IPO on the London Stock Exchange over a private sale. Vue has appointed Rothschild to examine all options, with a decision expected within weeks.

Vue, founded by Richards in 1999, operates 225 sites across Europe including 94 in the UK and Ireland with 916 screens.

The chain reported revenues of £781million last year and profits of £80million after being rescued by its lenders in a post-Covid debt restructuring in 2022.

A London listing would be a rare boost for the struggling London Stock Exchange, which has lost companies to takeovers and seen many firms opt to float in the US instead.
