Citroen has taken the wraps off its electric 2CV Concept at the Paris Motor Show, aiming for an opening price of around €15,000 (£13,000) and showroom availability before the close of 2028 — close to forty years since the model was discontinued. The retro-inspired four-door hatch is built to challenge budget Chinese rivals, featuring a compact 3.76-metre body, a weight target under one tonne, and a battery sized for typical daily use rather than long-range driving.
The beloved original 'deux chevaux', which debuted in 1948, moved more than 3.8 million units before being phased out in 1990.
Citroen CEO Xavier Chardon said the revival is about 'reinventing what made it unique: its simplicity, its accessibility and the freedom it offered.'
Honouring the original's celebrated design philosophy, the new concept retains an in-door egg storage compartment and seats that can be lifted out for roadside picnics.
