City of London chief is named the UK's most influential Black Briton after topping the 2027 Powerlist ranking

Ian Thomas, 57, a Sheffield-born son of Windrush-generation Jamaican parents, topped the 2027 Black Powerlist — the annual ranking of the UK's most powerful people of African and Caribbean heritage — making him the first Black person to lead the City of London Corporation in over 900 years. Thomas, who needed seven interviews and an election to secure the post in 2022, oversees around 5,000 staff, the City of London Police, and 11,000 acres of open spaces including Epping Forest and Hampstead Heath.
'Adolescence' star Ashley Walters, 44, was recognised at the Grosvenor House gala with a Paramount Entertainer Award.
Sir Lenny Henry, 69, received a Lifetime Achievement Award for co-founding Comic Relief, which has raised over £1 billion for charity.
Thomas said he sees the honour 'less as a personal accolade and more as recognition of the people, teams and communities who have shaped and supported me.'
