City of London Police is offering cyclists caught jumping red lights a choice between watching a 47-second road safety film or paying a £50 fixed penalty notice. The 'sin bin' scheme positions a TV on a roadside mat at known hotspots, with the words 'time out zone' displayed beneath it. Sergeant Stuart Ford described it as an extra tool to support enforcement rather than replace fines. Shadow transport minister Greg Smith said the force deserves credit for taking action against what he called dangerous and antisocial road users.

The video features two visually impaired women discussing their experiences, alongside CCTV footage of serious accidents caused by cyclists.

Between April 2025 and March 2026, officers issued 1,315 fines to cyclists for jumping red lights — more than twice the previous year's figure.

Research by Thinks Insight and Strategy found that roughly 52% of London cyclists go through red lights, rising to 58% among daily commuters.
