Claudia Winkleman calls new Strictly host Emma Willis a 'knockout' as BBC's revamped line-up fails to lift ratings

Claudia Winkleman has given her wholehearted seal of approval to Emma Willis after the new Strictly Come Dancing host made her debut on Saturday, commenting "knockout" on Willis's Instagram backstage snaps from the launch show. The BBC had hoped the revamped three-presenter format would reverse the show's fortunes, but overnight figures disappointed, with the episode averaging 5.3 million viewers, down from 5.4 million the previous year.

Winkleman, 54, was reportedly spotted shopping in Notting Hill with her half-brother Oliver Lloyd while her old show launched without her.

Josh Widdicombe and Johannes Radebe drew a mixed reaction, with viewers branding Widdicombe 'out of his depth' and questioning Radebe's presenting skills.
