Private equity firm Clearlake Capital has taken complete ownership of Chelsea after Todd Boehly and Mark Walter sold their combined 25 per cent stake in a deal valuing the Premier League club at approximately £5bn. Boehly, who served as chairman since the 2022 takeover from Roman Abramovich, described his tenure as 'an honour' and has now vacated his role. Clearlake, which previously held 61.5 per cent, will now control around 88 per cent of the club. Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss retains the remaining 12 per cent as a continuing stakeholder.
Boehly and Clearlake co-founders Behdad Eghbali and José Feliciano had clashed over Stamford Bridge's future redevelopment.
Chelsea insist there will be 'no changes to day-to-day operations, leadership or strategy' under sole Clearlake control.
Eghbali and Feliciano said Clearlake will 'continue investing in infrastructure, sporting performance and player development'.
