Commons probe into Farage's £5m crypto gift is expected within days and could trigger a second Clacton by-election

Parliamentary standards commissioner Daniel Greenberg is expected to publish findings within days into whether Nigel Farage should have declared a £5 million gift from Thai-based cryptocurrency billionaire Christopher Harborne. Farage, who won August's Clacton by-election with a majority of 12,784, insists the money was intended to fund his personal security and denies any wrongdoing. The case could be referred to the Committee of Standards, which has the power to suspend him for more than 10 days and trigger a recall petition.

A by-election would only fire if 10 per cent of Clacton's registered voters signed a recall petition.

The committee is made up of four Labour MPs, two Tories and one Lib Dem — giving opposition parties effective control.

Separately, Reform faces internal tensions between 'Sensible' ex-Tory moderates and 'Zianist' populists around Zia Yusuf.
