Conservatives win British Columbia for the first time since 1928 as David Eby's snap election gamble BACKFIRES

Lorne Doerkson, 58, led the Conservatives to 64 of the province's 93 seats, leaving the New Democrats with 27 and ending their nine years in power. Doerkson, who will become premier, vowed to 'cut red tape like it's never been cut before'. He pledged to double natural gas output by 2032 and scrap the carbon tax framework. Eby resigned as party leader on Saturday night.

Eby called the vote two years early, claiming he needed a mandate to confront Trump's tariffs.

President Donald Trump shared news of the victory on Truth Social on Sunday.

The landslide is being read as a warning to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
