Jane Doe says her sorority president passed on the remark from Cornell President Michael Kotlikoff following a conversation in November 2024. In a letter to faculty leaders, she described the comment as leaving her feeling 'unsupported and disbelieved'. Cornell has contested her account, and dean of faculty Chris Schaffer has put forward a different version of what was said. Faculty members are now moving toward a possible no-confidence vote in the university's leadership.

Her lawsuit, filed last month, alleges she was raped by several students at a fraternity party in October 2024.

The allegations have triggered campus protests and prompted authorities to reopen a criminal investigation.

Lawyer Thomas Giuffra said the letter was sent 'for informational purposes only'.
