Council orders demolition of nearly 150 Brechin homes damaged by Storm Babet flooding almost three years ago

Angus Council has agreed to flatten nearly 150 homes in Brechin that were devastated by Storm Babet flooding in October 2023, ending years of uncertainty for residents left in limbo by the disaster. The decision marks one of the largest storm-damage demolition orders in recent Scottish history.

Residents say they have been trapped in limbo since the 2023 floods, unable to rebuild or sell their damaged properties.

The demolitions represent a permanent write-off of an entire neighbourhood, with no confirmed plans yet for what replaces the cleared land.
