Coventry fan, 14, is arrested over 'cruel' taunt as Bradley Lowery's mother pleads for no hatred towards the teenager

The 14-year-old Coventry City supporter handed himself in to West Midlands Police on Sunday before being arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and bailed with conditions. The five-second clip, which spread widely online after Coventry's 3-1 Premier League win, showed the boy grinning and pointing at a phone image of Bradley towards the away end. Gemma Lowery urged the public not to direct hatred at the teenager, saying she wanted him to 'learn from this' rather than face threats.
Bradley died aged six in 2017 from neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer, and had become a beloved figure across the football world.
This is not the first such case: Sheffield Wednesday fan Dale Houghton was sacked and handed a suspended prison sentence for a similar taunt in 2023.
Gemma Lowery said: 'Surely mocking a child who died from cancer is not banter? Behind that photograph is a little boy who was loved beyond measure.'
