Critics hail David Suchet as Thomas Becket in a rare church revival of TS Eliot's 'Murder in the Cathedral'

Tom Littler's Orange Tree production has moved across the road into St John the Divine in Richmond while the theatre is renovated. Designer Robert Jones runs a steel catwalk down the aisle, and the church is filled with incense and candles. Suchet delivers Becket's Christmas sermon from the real pulpit. One critic gave it four stars, and the show will also play Theatre Royal Bath.

Suchet converted to Anglicanism and described being 'dragged kicking and screaming' toward faith.

One critic called the production 'an absolute triumph' and the best way to see the play.

His hands shake and his lip trembles as Becket's killers finally come through the door.
