'Dad was buried in the suit he bought for my wedding': Sir David Amess's daughter speaks on fifth anniversary of his murder

Katie Amess has paid tribute to her father Sir David Amess, the Southend West MP stabbed to death during a constituency surgery in Leigh-on-Sea on 15 October 2021, saying his legacy "is one of love." She recalled how "amazing" he was and became tearful as she described feeling his spirit urging her to keep pushing for answers about his death. A government-commissioned review into his murder is under way, and children from Fairways Primary School in Southend are today holding their first Westminster debate in his memory.
Ali Harbi Ali, who had been referred to Prevent seven years before the attack, was given a whole-life sentence for the murder in 2022.
The Music Man Project, which Sir David championed, last week fulfilled his promise of a Broadway debut — five years after his death.
Iain Dale, who paid tribute today, said Sir David died doing the job he loved.
