Dame Judi Dench said she bore some responsibility for M's death, having spent years urging the Bond producers to move the character away from behind a desk.

In her new memoir 'Is It Too Late to Make a Run For It?', Dame Judi Dench reveals Craig pushed for M's death in Skyfall, telling producers at the Wolseley restaurant to "bump her off" — and she jokingly blames herself for asking to get out from behind her desk. Dench, 91, spent 20 years and eight Bond films as MI6 chief M, starting with GoldenEye in 1995 alongside Pierce Brosnan.

Dench quipped: 'They did finally let me out from behind my desk... and they shot me.'

She has never watched Spectre — 'because they killed me off, I'm still sulking,' she laughed.

Dench also joked she had to 'suffer the indignity of being sacked by Ralph Fiennes — arsehole.'
