Dame Kristin Scott Thomas, 66, plays Gloria, a grandmother who swaps cash-filled Christmas cards for a secret "Gran Cave" — a study transformed with disco balls, fairy lights and a turntable — in John Lewis's 20th annual festive campaign, titled 'Gloria and Pickles'. Paul Whitehouse voices Pickles, a vintage Little Snoopy pull-along toy who springs to life to challenge Gloria's lazy gifting, while Sam Fender covers The Rolling Stones' 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' as the soundtrack.
Mick Jagger personally endorsed the cover, saying: 'I'm a fan of Sam's work — I think he's done a great job.'
Fender re-recorded the children's choir with pupils from his old school, John Spence Community High School, with brass from the Easington Colliery Band.
Marketing director Rosie Hanley said John Lewis increased its spend this year to 'push the boat out' for the campaign's 20th anniversary.
