Sir David Attenborough has promised to uncover marine life "more surprising, more intelligent, and even more precious than we ever realised" in Blue Planet III, unveiled at a London launch event on Tuesday night that included a Piccadilly Circus ocean takeover. The six-part series, nearly four years in the making, will air on the BBC this autumn — a quarter-century on from the original series' debut. Composer Hans Zimmer, returning after scoring Blue Planet II, called it the "most important work" he has ever done.
Attenborough, who turned 100 this year, said he never imagined he would narrate a third series "in my centennial year."
To document animal behaviours in the ocean's least understood environments that had never previously been observed, the BBC Natural History Unit deployed underwater cameras operated remotely, drone aircraft and crewed submersibles.
Singer Jade Thirlwall co-wrote the original song 'Into The Deep (Seas Cry)' for the series' Hans Zimmer score.
