Death toll in Jordan church funeral attack rises to nine as officials blame 'extremist takfiri ideology'
Government spokesman Mohammad Momani said the gunmen who stormed the Greek Orthodox church in Hamoud, Karak, held beliefs branding non-believers apostates. No arrests have been made and no group has claimed the attack. Health Minister Ibrahim al-Budour said one patient remains unstable at Prince Ali Military Hospital. The US embassy in Amman has stepped up security at malls and foreign embassies.
King Abdullah II vowed the attack 'will be met with the harshest retaliation'.
CCTV showed three men firing pistols and a semiautomatic rifle before charging the church.
Mourner Dorgham Halasa said heavy gunfire erupted just 15 minutes into the funeral.
