Deep Purple postpone two German shows after singer Ian Gillan, 81, is rushed to hospital with a 'medical emergency'
Ian Gillan, Deep Purple frontman, performing in Milan on 17 October, mid-way through the band's 86-show 'Splat!' world tour supporting their summer 2026 album.
Deep Purple announced on Saturday that Leipzig and Hamburg concerts were cancelled hours before the Leipzig show was due to begin, with Gillan, 81, taken to hospital and his condition undisclosed. The band is due to resume the European leg of its 86-show SPLAT! World Tour on 3 November in Dortmund, Germany.
Fans who bought tickets for the two cancelled German dates have been told they will remain valid for rescheduled performances.
The band's UK tour — taking in Newcastle, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester and London — is still scheduled for 18–24 November.
Last year Gillan admitted his eyesight is deteriorating and said he may be approaching retirement.
