Deep Purple cancel two German shows after frontman Ian Gillan, 81, is rushed to hospital with a 'medical emergency'

Ian Gillan remains in hospital on Saturday with no details disclosed about the nature of his illness, leaving fans anxious about the 81-year-old frontman's condition. Deep Purple's statement, posted to Instagram and X on Halloween, confirmed the Leipzig and Hamburg dates are off, with the band pledging to find rescheduled slots. The tour was due to continue in Dortmund on 3 November, and UK arena dates run from 18 to 24 November.

All tickets for the cancelled Leipzig and Hamburg shows will remain valid for rescheduled dates, though no new dates have been announced.

Deep Purple are mid-way through an 86-show 'Splat!' world tour spanning 28 countries across three continents, supporting their summer 2026 album.

Gillan admitted last year his eyesight is deteriorating and that retirement may be approaching, telling Uncut: 'It's one of those things.'
