Defiant Infantino vows he has 'never been more determined' as US probe into his Trump ties deepens

FIFA president Gianni Infantino declared he has "never been more determined and committed" at an event in Jeddah last night, even as Democratic members of the US House Judiciary Committee accused him of "woefully inadequate" cooperation with their investigation into FIFA's ties to Donald Trump. Congressman Jamie Raskin wrote to Infantino in late July demanding all records of FIFA's contacts with Trump, his administration and the Trump Organisation, with a deadline of August 9 that Infantino ignored. The defiance comes as Infantino embarks on a charm offensive ahead of next year's FIFA election, in which he is seeking to add another term to a decade already in power.
Infantino awarded Trump a newly created FIFA Peace Prize during the 2026 World Cup and also moved the tournament draw away from Las Vegas, staging it instead in Washington, D.C.
Raskin's committee also demanded visitor logs from FIFA's Miami and New York offices and the preservation of communications sent via Signal, Telegram, WhatsApp, X and Truth Social.
Because Democrats hold only minority status, no subpoena could be issued — but the probe is seen as a preview of the scrutiny FIFA would face if Democrats recapture the House in November's midterms.
