Republican senator Lisa Murkowski says Trump's Justice Department 'should never have filed' its bid to block Alaska's Senate certification

Donald Trump's own boast, 'I'm the one that said do it', is now being quoted back at him in a motion to dismiss the case. The motion, filed by the League of Women Voters of Alaska, Common Cause and two voters, also seeks sanctions. Mary Peltola's campaign and Democratic senators branded the suit an 'unprecedented pre-emptive strike'. It hinges on a second candidate, Daniel J. Sullivan.

Peltola called it 'a very desperate attempt to cling to power'.

Bush campaign lawyer Ben Ginsberg said the case has 'zero basis in the law'.

Daniel J. Sullivan, a retired Petersburg teacher, says the name came from his father.
