Demolishes monument Range Rover flattens Howden's historic market cross in East Yorkshire, leaving the car perched on its medieval base

One pedestrian is believed to have been taken to hospital after the crash outside the Shire Hall shortly after 10.30am on Thursday, though police said nobody was seriously hurt. The Grade II listed landmark's base is medieval, while its 16ft shaft and cross were carved in 1909. Humberside Police urged motorists to avoid Market Place. Independent councillor David Howard said: 'It's in a real mess.'

Howard said the wreckage looked 'almost an album cover from an early 1980s rock band'.
