An Australian Defence Force member is cooperating with military police after a concealed camera turned up in the women's shower facilities aboard the HMAS Leeuwin while the vessel was berthed in Cairns, Queensland. Vice Admiral Matt Buckley, the Chief of Navy, described the incident as 'act of sexual violence' and ordered a 100 per cent audit of all bathrooms across the entire fleet.

Tasmanian Senator Jacqui Lambie first exposed the scandal in the federal Senate after a former navy member emailed her with the allegations.

The ship remains docked in Cairns to allow a 'rapid and rigorous investigation' by the Joint Military Policing Unit; Queensland Police have not yet been referred the matter.

Buckley told naval officers the Warrant Officer of the Navy has been deployed to Cairns personally to support the crew.
