DIY retailer Wickes posts faster sales growth but warns prices are now rising again for home improvers

Group sales rose 4.5% to £439m in the three months to 26 September, accelerating from 2.3% growth the previous quarter. Retail sales were up 6% to £331m, driven by solid demand across timber, flooring, roofing and garden ranges. However, bespoke kitchens — priced from around £4,000 — lost momentum as consumers became cautious about large outlays. Chief executive David Wood said the company remains on track to meet full-year profit targets.

Shares jumped more than 4% on Tuesday following the trading update.

TradePro sales were 8% higher, with active membership reaching 684,000.

Wickes acquired the freehold of its Perry Barr store for £6.3m after the site faced a redevelopment threat.
