US Attorney General Todd Blanche insists the DOJ is not trying to block Alaska's Senate result in the duelling-Sullivans lawsuit
Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski says the Justice Department 'should never have filed' the case, adding that Alaska's ballot already distinguishes between the two candidates. The suit alleges that Daniel J. Sullivan Jr, a retired teacher, entered the race to siphon votes from incumbent Dan Sullivan and boost Democrat Mary Peltola. President Donald Trump says he directed the action. Peltola calls it 'a very desperate attempt to cling to power'.
Trump described the same-name candidacy as 'cheating like hell' at a Florida rally on Friday.
Common Cause, backed by ACLU lawyers, has moved to intervene against the DOJ lawsuit.
Blanche is due on CBS and CNN on Sunday to defend the case.
