Drink or drug driver arrested after two men are killed in A49 lorry crash in Herefordshire
A 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving while unfit through drink or drugs, after a three-vehicle smash on the A49 at Dinmore, Herefordshire killed two men on Tuesday afternoon. The driver of a Vauxhall Astra, a man in his 40s, and a passenger in his 20s were both pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect has since been released on bail while West Mercia Police continue their enquiries. Officers are now appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage from anyone travelling in the area at the time.
The collision, at around 4.10pm on Tuesday, involved a Vauxhall Astra, a Citroën C3 Picasso and a DAF lorry.
An air ambulance, two ambulances, two paramedic officers and an emergency doctor all attended, but nothing could be done to save either man.
The A49 between Wellington and Hope-under-Dinmore was closed overnight for a collision investigation before reopening on Wednesday.
