Driver is found guilty of murdering a cycling headteacher he dragged for more than a mile beneath his SUV

Simon Richardson, 35, who had just been released from prison, was convicted of murder at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on Friday after a jury deliberated for around 11 hours. Michael Mullins, 56, had been a headteacher at Stretford Grammar School for 17 years when Richardson's Volvo XC90 struck him at a junction in Warburton on 20 April. Richardson pressed on at up to 60mph, veering deliberately side to side to dislodge Mullins before reversing over him on a grass verge in Lymm, Cheshire.
After leaving Mullins dying at the roadside, Richardson stopped to fill up with petrol and collect weight-loss medication for his cousin.
Shouts of 'Yes!' rang out from the public gallery as the verdict was returned; the judge told Richardson life imprisonment is the only sentence for murder.
Richardson's cousin, passenger Gabrielle Debotte, told the court both heard 'moaning' after the collision and Richardson said: 'He is under the car.'
