Driver who killed her friend in a 143mph Lamborghini crash is arrested after a hospital 'ruse' to skip her sentencing
Humaira Batool, 26, of Bradford, claimed a flare-up of endometriosis had sent her to A&E on the morning she was due to be sentenced at Leeds Crown Court for killing her friend Mohammed Shaan Hussain, 20, in a £208,000 Lamborghini. Judge Ray Singh dismissed it as "clearly a ruse," issued a bench warrant, and had her arrested at Bradford Royal Infirmary and transported directly to court in a police vehicle.
CCTV footage showed Batool and Hussain swapping seats at traffic lights in the moments before the M62 crash, contradicting her claim that she had been asleep in the passenger seat.
Prosecutors pointed the court to social media photographs showing Batool in a ballgown and heels at a recent event — a stark contrast to her previous court appearances on crutches.
Judge Singh told Batool her failure to appear was 'unforgivable', saying email traffic over the weekend had made it 'fairly obvious' she was never going to attend.
