Stephen Lang, 58, could have settled the matter with a £250 fixed penalty but ignored a reminder and a warning of prosecution. The row began at Exchequer Quay car park in Penryn after he parked outside a marked bay. He ripped the ticket off twice, screwing it up and hurling it towards a female enforcement officer. Lang, of Camborne, skipped Truro Magistrates' Court and was convicted in his absence.

Court costs alone came to £1,920.90, plus a £250 fine and £100 victim surcharge.

The warden's body-worn camera and car park CCTV captured the whole outburst.

Councillor Thalia Marrington: 'We will not tolerate any abuse towards our officers.'
