The Met Office has placed a yellow fog warning across 28 areas of England and Wales until 10am on Saturday, with some rural patches expected to linger into the afternoon. Visibility has dropped below 100 metres in places, with the worst disruption during the morning rush hour. Trains, buses, ferries and flights face delays or cancellations.

The warning covers the East and West Midlands, East of England, Yorkshire and Humber, parts of Greater London, and areas of Wales including Denbighshire, Powys and Wrexham.

The AA is urging drivers not to rely on automatic headlights, to slow down, and to increase the gap to the vehicle ahead.

Sunday could bring thicker cloud and scattered light rain as a weather front drifts in from the Atlantic, though the rest of the country is expected to stay broadly dry.
