DUP demands Bryant explains himself as loyalists plan judicial review of Drumcree parade ban

Northern Ireland Secretary Sir Chris Bryant banned the Drumcree Orange Order parade on Friday night after PSNI chief constable Jon Boutcher warned the march would carry an unacceptable risk of serious injury and wider disorder across Northern Ireland. Bryant said two compromise proposals had been on the table but talks between the Portadown District Lodge and Garvaghy Road residents ultimately collapsed. The ban overrides a Parades Commission ruling from two weeks ago that had allowed the march to proceed along Garvaghy Road for the first time in almost 30 years.
DUP leader Gavin Robinson demanded Bryant now explain 'what his Government intends to do to restore confidence in the rule of law'.
Loyalist activist Jamie Bryson indicated an emergency judicial review of the ban is being planned.
First Minister Michelle O'Neill, who faces a police interview over allegedly blocking the original parade, said residents have been living in 'constant fear' and Bryant should have acted sooner.
