Egypt's Sisi says his army is ready to defend Saudi Arabia from Houthi attacks as parliament prepares emergency vote

Egypt's pledge comes in the wake of the Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on 10 October, which left 13 people dead, among them an American. President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, speaking at the Egyptian Military Academy, called it 'inconceivable' that Saudi security could be harmed. He said he would enter the conflict only at Mohammed bin Salman's request. Egypt's parliament is scheduled to convene in emergency session on Sunday to approve military action.

The UAE has agreed to resume funding anti-Houthi forces, with Saudi Arabia providing air cover.

At least 2,007 Yemenis were killed or wounded between 3 and 11 October, says the WHO.

The Houthis struck the headquarters of Saudi oil giant Aramco on Wednesday.
