Electronic Arts is closing BioWare, the studio behind Mass Effect and Dragon Age, and cancelling the next Mass Effect game

Around 400 jobs are reportedly set to go across Electronic Arts, about 3 per cent of its staff, with roughly 50 of them at BioWare. Work on The Sims spin-off Project Lotus has been paused and the Skate team is being cut back. EA bosses David Tinson and Cam Weber told staff that resources will now go into fewer, bigger games. They called BioWare 'a legendary studio' and said the decision was not taken lightly.

The next Mass Effect was still in early development when executives pulled the plug.

Former Mass Effect writer Catherynne M. Valente said: 'We were working on a great game.'

Battlefield, Apex Legends, Star Wars Jedi and Marvel's Iron Man all escape the cuts.
