Neso staff feared their concerns were ignored to 'keep the Government happy' as grid bosses cling on after blackout probe

Investigators at Eversheds Sutherland International concluded that the central whistleblower allegations against the National Energy System Operator could not be substantiated. Their inquiry did, however, identify failings in Neso's culture, governance and controls. The investigation was triggered by claims — brought to public attention by Claire Coutinho in July — that Neso had altered records to conceal blackout risk on 23 June. Ofgem's own separate review of events during the June heatwave remains ongoing.

The probe made no assessment of how close Britain actually came to a blackout during that week.

Richard Tice attributed the threat of 'Blackout Britain' this winter to Net Zero.

Energy consultant Kathryn Porter argued that fears of a blackout should not be written off as 'scaremongering'.
