Jorge Ortega, 61, suffered a catastrophic brain injury after Ayodele Jamgbadi, 30, threw an unprovoked left hook at him at Ilford station on December 4, 2024, knocking him to the ground. He died in hospital two days later. Jamgbadi was found unfit to stand trial due to serious mental health problems, and a jury at Inner London Crown Court unanimously concluded that he carried out the attack.

Jamgbadi had grown agitated after missing a train and was kicking a wall on Platform 3 when Ortega arrived to investigate the disturbance.

He was given a hospital order under the Mental Health Act and cannot be discharged or transferred without approval from the Justice Secretary or the Mental Health Tribunal.

Ortega's family said: 'We miss Jorge every single day — he was a loving husband, devoted father and wonderful grandfather.'
