Matthew Wright, 52, the executive producer who spent 16 years on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show', died on 30 October in Los Angeles in circumstances his family have called an 'unfathomable tragedy', with no cause of death given. DeGeneres, 68, posted a tearful Instagram tribute on Monday calling Wright 'the glue to our entire family' and donated $5,000 to a GoFundMe that has already raised over $74,000.
Wright and his husband Justin Fusella had both been laid off earlier this summer, leaving his New York family unable to cover funeral and repatriation costs.
DeGeneres choked up drawing a parallel with late show DJ Stephen 'Twitch' Boss, saying Wright is 'now dancing and laughing' with him — Boss died by suicide in 2022.
The pair had been preparing to start a new project together at the time of Wright's sudden death.
