The car climbed a curved ramp, flipped inverted while underbody suction fans held it in place, then launched off and touched down on its own. Elon Musk claims it hits 60mph in 0.81 seconds. Ahead of Thursday's demo at a SpaceX facility in Texas, he admitted 'success is not guaranteed'. A single clip he posted on X has reached 47 million views.

Musk said a live crowd was needed 'to prove that it's not AI'.

The Roadster also leaped over a line of Teslas, including a Cybertruck and a Semi.

Musk promises it will 'crush every track record that has ever existed'.
